The British Council and British Higher School of Arts and Design are glad to announce to the open call for emerging Russian fashion talent to apply for a grant to go to the UK on a fashion-focused study trip on 16-22 February 2018.

The selected participants of the trip will go to the UK for a unique programme of meetings with UK industry experts, international peer networking, practical business skills workshops and attendance at key UK industry events in fashion around London Fashion Week. The trip will provides the winners an amazing insight and access into the UK creative industries and wide range of contacts. 

Application requirements

We are inviting the following creatives to apply:

  • fashion designers
  • accessories designers
  • jewelry designers
  • footwear designer
  • millinery designers.

We are looking for the people shaping the creative future who test new models and ideas and have a positive economic, cultural and social impact in their local and potentially international context, and applicants should:

  • own or be the driving force behind a young business in the fashion with at least 2 years but no more than 7 years in business
  • be entrepreneurial and have shown their ability in the promotion of that creative sector in their country, in either a commercial context, public context, or both
  • demonstrate innovation and uniqueness in either product or business approach
  • through their character, drive and abilities, demonstrate their potential to be a future leader of the sector in their country and a future partner for the UK
  • have English language skills at the advanced level
  • be a Russian citizen over 18 years old
  • hold a foreign passport.

The British Council will fully cover visas, flights and accommodation and arrange a business, educational and entertainment programme. Successful applicants will be expected to cover all meals and local transportation expenses independently.

Interviews with shortlisted candidates will be held jointly by the British Council and British Higher School of Arts and Design on the week commencing 11 December 2017. Winners will be announced by 31 December 2017.

Programme

The programme will include:

  • curated group meetings to give an overview of what’s happening in the UK fashion industry
  • peer networking with the UK young fashion talent
  • access to and masterclasses with senior UK industry figures
  • time for individual business meetings
  • opportunities to network and make business contacts
  • access to the fashion catwalk shows in the London Fashion Week off-schedule programme.

Conditions

The British Council will fully cover visas, flights and accommodation and arrange a business, educational and entertainment programme. Successful applicants will be expected to cover all meals and local transportation expenses independently.

The British Council will conduct the selection process in line with its equality and diversity policies.
