The purpose of our Internship Programme is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills and enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments while gaining experience of working in an international environment.

Our Internship Programme is open to students or graduates (18 years or above).

Interns are responsible for their own living accommodation, transport, visas, personal insurance etc.

The period of internship would normally be from three to six weeks.

The programme is normally full-time, i.e. interns are expected to work five days a week (09:00–17:00 or 10:00–18:00) in the British Council office in Moscow.

Candidate requirements

  • fluency in English (spoken & written);
  • excellent Russian;
  • computing skills (MS Office);
  • strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, accuracy;
  • desire to work & develop;
  • Russian citizenship;
  • knowledge of British Council work areas is advantageous.

What do interns do at the British Council?

The job plan for interns will depend on the department they are working in. For instance, it may involve assistance in preparing & delivering events, compiling statistics, media analysis and etc. Please find a link below to downloadable document 'Description of departments and examples of tasks'.

What requirements and selection processes are used?

All applications received will be reviewed by our Human Resources Department quarterly.

Shortlisting periods:

January — spring internships (period for applications: 1–31 December);
April — summer internships (period for applications: 1–30 March);
July — autumn internships (period for applications: 1–21 June);
October — winter internships (period for applications: 1–30 September);

Human Resources Department and the related managers will hold a selection process to assess the received BC standard application forms. CVs will not be considered.

How can i find out about the status of my application?

As soon as your application is successfully received, you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail from us.

We will contact all candidates and let them know the result.

Do interns get a certificate?

All selected candidates who have completed the internship programme successfully will receive a certificate stating the period of the internship and the name of the section or office to which the intern was assigned.

What are my chances of employment at the British Council after the internship?

As the main purpose of the Internship Programme is to provide an opportunity to gain experience in project work in an international environment the programme is not related to employment in the British Council.

An intern may apply to any job opening in the British Council during his/her internship programme, if he/she wishes to apply.
