The annual international festival DANCE OPEN which brings together the best choreographers and respected critics will be traditionally held April 23–28, 2014 in Saint-Petersburg at the renowned Imperial stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater.
The closing Gala concert will not only include performances of brilliant soloists of Royal Ballet Covent Garden — Matthew Golding, Natalia Osipova, Melissa Hamilton and Eric Underwood, but also works by British choreographers — from classical productions by John Neumeier and Kenneth MacMillan to Wayne McGregor and David Dawson, who are recognized as the most established figures of «radical choreography», thus being part of the contemporary line of the concert.
The festival program also includes performances by Dutch National Ballet, Malandain Ballet Biarritz and Complexions Contemporary Ballet; the jury will be chaired by Hans van Manen.
As usual, all the Gala participants will be nominated for the 5th St. Petersburg Ballet Award DANCE OPEN. Secret voting of international jury determines the winners in six categories. However, each spectator has the opportunity to participate — by voting for the favourite dancer and putting a ticket in a special ballot box in the theatre or by e-voting at www.facebook.com/DanceOpen.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The festival was founded in St. Petersburg in 2001. The Independent called it one of the most influential ballet festival in Europe. Its basic credo is «find no compromise». It is reflected everywhere: in the selection of participants in the Gala concert (only world famous soloists), in the ballet performances (only masterpieces), and the jury of the DANCE OPEN Award (only world renowned choreographers).
