The Decisive Action Festival will be held in Yekaterinburg from 16–30 August 2014 as part of the UK-Russia Year of Culture and will unite four Russian and four British artists who will display their works in a public park in the vicinity of the Urals branch of the NCCA. The Festival is organized by the Ekaterinburg branch of the NCCA together with art-agency The July 16.
Use of the park as the exhibition venue will eliminate any barriers that may prevent the people of Yekaterinburg from making the most of this encounter with contemporary art. Furthermore, the projects’ strong connection with local industrial heritage and issues that are important to everyone, such as food, street safety and communication, should help to open up the exhibition to all of the city’s residents.
The curators of the exhibition, Sven Mendner and Ilya Shipilovskih want to use the art projects not only to make the park’s area visible, but also to encourage a new perception of the park. The art objects will motivate people to meet in the park more — leave their flats, offices, bars and shopping malls and take action together. In order to achieve this, the curators of the two-week festival have organized a variety of events — musical, theatrical and poetical (for more information, see www.decisive-action.tumblr.com).
The Festival will open on 16 August, which is also Yekaterinburg City Day. On this day, a programme of excursions, art master classes and performances will be open for visitors from 12–4 pm.
