TheatreHD and DanceHelp will launch a special project in February that will include screenings of four British ballets and, for the first time in Russia, a dance workshop for Russian choreographers run by Matthew Bourne’s New Adventure.
Four famous Matthew Bourne’s creations — Swan Lake, The Car Man, Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet — are already available on TheaterHD/Play, a streaming service created by TheaterHD.
At the end of February, Etta Murfitt, a long-time Associate Director of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventure, will hold a workshop for Russian choreographers. A celebrated choreographer, Etta Murfitt has performed and collaborated on numerous shows of Sir Matthew Bourne’s leading international dance company. She also has extensive experience working with musical theatre and stage movement. Etta Murfitt’s workshop is “Getting into Character: a collaboration between choreographer and dancer. Personality, gestures, facial expressions, humour”.
Matthew Bourne’s choreography is eclectic in approach, blending modern modes of dance with traditional styles. All movement is generated through creative exploration and play. It is a mixture of acting, dance, storytelling, performance, musical theatre, popular culture, and films.
What to expect: a warm-up; a study of dance elements; an insight into Matthew Bourne's choreographic approach and stylistic features; an example of the rehearsal process with excerpts from Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake; a creative task for the participants and its discussion; and a Q&A session.
How: an interactive Zoom session; simultaneous translation will be provided.
When: 23 February 2021, 2 - 4 pm (MSK)
To participate in the workshop, please fill in the registration form here.
We will select 20 applicants who will participate in the interactive workshop, while others will receive a Zoom link to watch the workshop and participate in discussions.
