The Creative Association of Curators TOK, with the support of the British Council, presents the Russian premiere of the film The Battle of Orgreave: An Injury to One is an Injury to All, directed by Mike Figgis in collaboration with the famous British artist, Jeremy Deller, who represented the UK at the Venice Biennale 2013.

Screenings are being held as part of the parallel programme of the European Bienniale of Contemporary Art; Manifesta 10.

ABOUT THE FILM THE BATTLE OF ORGREAVE

The Battle of Orgreave is based on the re-enactment of brutal and bloody clashes between miners and police officers in 1984 in the north of England. The reconstruction of this important and controversial event in British history was produced in 2001 by Jeremy Deller in cooperation with the British art-company Artangel. Mike Figgis filmed the re-enactment of the Battle of Orgreave and based his documentary film on it, combining original footage from the dramatic event of 1984 with shots of the modern reconstruction, and interviews with witnesses from 1984, and those who relived it again in 2001 during the reconstruction.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

Screenings will be accompanied by an intensive educational programme throughout autumn 2014, including a discussion with Jeremy Deller and a workshop on the methodology behind the artistic reconstruction of historical events and art projects and working with archive data.

A core element of the programme will comprise discussions on the importance of documenting political events and the artistic analysis of history, including Russian and foreign artists, museum curators and guides, historians, documentarians, journalists, and politicians. Another discussion will be sparked by Jeremy Deller’s art work and framed around the coverage and documentation of political events that have played an important role in national and world history.

From September you can find a detailed schedule for the educational programme here: www.tok-spb.org
