On February 19 at 19:00, everyone will be able to see the results of the Sound Art Lab with Sonia Killmann and Raydale Dower. After several sessions in the Young Artist Lab, the guys are ready to present their audio-visual collaborations. An evening of new musical compositions from local artists and musicians representing their «Voice of the Urals» awaits you.
In meetings with Sonia Killmann and Raydale Dower, participants will use their skills in electronic music creation and visual coding to present a unique series of works.
Project organiser: ANO «Standard 2.0». The laboratory is implemented jointly with the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts / NCCA Ekaterinburg and supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
The project is part of the UK — Russia Creative Bridge 2021-2022 by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow.
About the artist:
Sonia Killmann is a Glasgow-based international composer and multimedia artist. She has been exploring the relationship between sound and the environment. Her works often involve field recordings, as well as a mixture of live processing and audiovisual music. In her ambient duo Failed System Test Sonia uses coded visuals and Ableton Live to create an immersive experience through melodic saxophone playing and live digital processing of multiple mediums. Failed System Test have also just released their second EP {unshift} with Dead Hound Records, which Sonia co-produced. She also creates sound and music for her podcast Albumly, in which she also invites independent artists to share and talk about their works.
Raydale Dower lives and works in Glasgow. Dower’s practice is wide-ranging and diverse with a sculptural approach to installation, sound, object, events and situations, informed by research and personal experience coupled with a long-term interest in anarchic philosophy and its relationship to avant-garde movements. A key element, maintained across Dower’s projects, is an interest in the treatment of space through the lens of cultural, social, and sonic signifiers. Combined with a DIY ethos Dower often initiates projects and activates the potential within spaces or found objects provoking a shift in perspective and a demonstration of a new use.
