The international festival CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva will take place in Moscow from 12-15 November and in St. Petersburg from 16-19 November,

The festival’s fifth anniversary will feature a mix of ballet and contemporary dance productions from some of the top choreographers and companies on the world stage.

The festival’s opening gala will feature an excerpt from Wayne McGregor’s ballet FAR, set to music by Brian Eno collaborator, Ben Frost. Inspired by the Age of Enlightenment and by the 18th-century French philosopher Diderot's very first set of encyclopaedia, FAR’s choreography is physical, immediate and cerebral.

Wayne McGregor

Wayne McGregor is a multi-award winning British choreographer and director, internationally renowned for trailblazing innovations in performance that have radically redefined dance today. His work is known for its strongly articulated movement vocabulary and celebrated for its multidimensional approach across artistic forms, scientific disciplines and technological interventions.  His company, Company Wayne McGregor creates has toured around the world and his works have been performed by many different companies: Paris Opera Ballet, New York City Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet. In January 2011, McGregor was awarded a CBE for Services to Dance.

Inspiration for the play, an excerpt from which will be presented during the Gala-opening of CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva, came from Flesh in the Age of Reason (hence the abbreviated title FAR), Roy Porter’s prodigious history of 18th century explorations into body and soul.
