Opening of the Future of the Word Forum
A lecture-performance by Erica Scourti "Personal Protocols”
Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design
Bersenevskaya embankment, 14, Moscow
2 June at 18.00 as part of the 3-day Future of the Word Forum, devoted to new perspectives on reading culture, the publishing industry and creative literary process in the UK and Russia.
Erica Scourti will present a selection of her recent works which draw on a performative approach and autobiography to engage with expanded notions of writing, language, and broadcasting in the networked era. Tracing a line between her ghost-written memoir, to the auto-archiving of personal media through image recognition software, to recent research into proxies both human and technological, her talk explores the automation of personality and subjectivity and closes with a performance bringing together sentiment analysis and productivity apps to humorous effect.
Born in Athens, Erica Scourti now lives and works in London. She has exhibited, performed and presented talks at Microscope Gallery (New York), The Photographers’ Gallery, Hayward Gallery, ICA, David Roberts Art Foundation, Southbank Centre, South London Gallerym, the Royal College of Art (London), Kunstverein (Munich), EMST (Athens).
She is currently developing a performance for Block Universe Festival (London). Her recent shows include Big Bang Data at Somerset House (London), The Practice of Theories at Wysing Arts Centre and Dark Archives, a solo commission, at Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam).
In 2015 Erica was in residence at Wysing Arts Centre and the White Building (London) and she is a Near Now Fellow 2015-16.
