The foremost linguist David Crystal successfully held a series of lectures in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg within the framework of the UK-Russia Year of Culture 2014.

Over 1,700 people attended David Crystal’s lectures and about 600 people watched the lectures online. In his lectures David Crystal spoke about the original pronunciation of Shakespeare’s time, about the influence of Internet on language, English accents and many other issues

We also announced a contest «Ask David Crystal a question» and the answers to 10 best questions were recorded. We congratulate the winners and are glad to present the video interviews where you can find out how many new words were created by Shakespeare which linguistic phenomenon Professor Crystal would write an adventure story about, does Internet ruin the language and many other interesting answers.

David Crystal

Professor David Crystal — fellow of the British Academy, OBE, writer, editor, lecturer, and broadcaster. He lectured at scores of universities around the world and is now Honorary Professor of Linguistics at the University of Wales, Bangor. He has been a linguistic consultant of the Globe Theatre and the British Library. David Crystal is currently patron of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) and the Association for Language Learning (ALL), president of the UK National Literacy Association and an honorary vice-president of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
