An online lecture by Michael Seal, an Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, will take place on the 9th of March 2021 at 14.00 (Moscow time) and will be particularly interesting for art institute students, music managers as well as wider audiences. The talk will be moderated by Evgeny Stodushnyy, CEO of Krasnoyarsk regional Philharmonic.
The lecture will focus on the UK music education system, career-building as a conductor and peculiarities of managing the orchestras. The British conductor will also talk about how British orchestras function, including youth and non-professional ones.
The online lecture is free of charge, with registration required. The lecture will be in English with simultaneous translation
Michael Seal holds the position of Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He got his musical education at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and later joined the CBSO as a violinist. He has served as a Principal Conductor of the Birmingham Schools Orchestra and frequently conducts the CBSO Youth Orchestra. As a guest conductor he has conducted several UK and international orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Brussels Philharmonic.
The event takes place within a series of educational lectures by British musicians and specialists organised by the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic for the young musicians of the Siberian Youth Orchestra. The programme is supported by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow and is part of the UK-Russia Creative Bridge 2020-21 programme.
The programme also includes educational lectures by such professionals as Peter Stark, conductor, Professor of Conducting at the Royal College of Music and Rehearsal Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra; Catherine Arlidge, MBE, violinist, Artistic and Educational Director of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain; Sarah Alexander, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain; Igor Yuzefovich, concertmaster of The BBC Symphony Orchestra. They will talk about the foundations of working in an orchestra and cover other professional tips valuable for aspiring artists.
The Siberian Youth Orchestra is a project of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic, gathering young musicians aged 14 to 21 - students of music schools, secondary educational level and higher educational institutions from all over Siberia.
