Climate justice is about the intersection between human rights, social justice and the climate and environmental movement. It is recognising climate change as a systemic issue, which is not only environmental or scientific but also ethical and political.
But how do we implement climate justice responses in our cultural organisations and practices? How can we build climate justice principles into our programming, outreach and audience engagement? What has climate justice got to do with cultural organisations, and who can we learn from?
On 2 March 2022 from 3 to 6 p.m. (MSK) Alison Tickell, Director of Julie's Bicycle, will hold a workshop on the intersection between human rights, social justice and the climate and environmental movement. Alison will also share the story of Julie's Bicycle, a pioneering non-profit mobilising the arts and culture to take action on the climate crisis.
The workshop is aimed at those working in arts and creative businesses or organisations who want to develop their ideas, thinking, and planning about sustainable practice.
This event is part of the second UK-Russia Creative Bridge forum organised by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow.
About Julie's Bicycle:
Julie's Bicycle is a pioneering not-for-profit mobilising the arts and culture to take action on the climate and ecological crisis. Founded by the music industry in 2007 and now working across the arts and culture, JB has partnered with over 2000 organisations in the UK and internationally. Combining cultural and environmental expertise, Julie’s Bicycle focuses on high-impact programmes and policy change to meet the climate crisis head-on.
Selection criteria
- Over 18 years old
- Russian Federation citizenship
- Upper Intermediate and higher level of English
- More than 1 year of work experience in Creative Industries
The workshop is run in English. The participation is free of charge. The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy will conduct the selection process in line with equality and diversity policies.
