Future Science 2017–20 was a professional development programme that aimed to grow the number and quality of UK-Russia research collaborations to encourage friendly long-term relationships, promote the UK as a source of scientific excellence and attractive research partner and nurture future leaders in Russian science who are open to UK ideas. 

Future Science also addressed the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education priorities including internationalisation, capacity building and mutually beneficial collaboration with the UK. 

Future Science engaged 1,674 early career researchers from Russia and the UK through bilateral Researcher Links workshops and Researcher Connect seminars which aimed to boost the science communication skills of Russian academics.
