The Cultural and Education section of the British Embassy is pleased to open this call for individual bursaries for online professional development courses in arts and culture and invites Russian cultural leaders and professionals to apply. The aim of the programme is to help Russian arts professionals to get access to the leading UK cultural institutions, acquire new knowledge and skills.

This call for applications is part of the UK – Russia Creative Bridge programme 

We are looking for:

  • leaders and senior managers representing Russian cultural institutions 
  • creative entrepreneurs and project leads working in the fields of visual and performing arts, film and television, literature and publishing, music, architecture, design, fashion, media and communications
  • advisors and managers working in the cultural sector for local / regional / national bodies (e.g. city councils, urban and cultural regeneration initiatives and regional development organisations)
  • academics and people developing the infrastructure and content for cultural education
  • we will also consider applications from cultural institutions that want to develop their senior team members.

Applicants should:

  • have a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in the cultural and creative sectors
  • hold a senior or middle management position in their organisation (if applicable)
  • speak confident English (Upper-Intermediate/Advanced)
  • be a Russian citizen
  • be aged 18+

Online professional development courses may include:

  • a short-term course or training provided by a UK cultural institution
  • an online professional cultural conference or forum in the UK
  • online mentorship or residency provided by UK cultural institution 
  • online research such as access to archives and libraries 
  • you can submit your application for one or several professional development items with a total cost of no less than £800 and up to £1,000. 

Bursaries do not cover language courses or exams. They do not cover non-UK based professional development initiatives.

How to apply:

  • the application should cover the applicant’s professional needs and goals with an outline of how they will achieve these through an individual bursary
  • the application should include links to the selected online courses of total costs from £800 to £1000 
  • the selected professional development initiatives should take place from November 2020 to the end of February 2021 
  • due to the current worldwide situation and COVID 19 threat, the bursaries can be spent only for online professional development initiatives and we do not support offline initiatives including travel or any events where physical presence is required
  • please complete the application form at the bottom of the page and send it to creativebridge@britishcouncil.org by 19 October 2020.

The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow will conduct the selection process in line with equality and diversity policies.

Representatives of the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow will contact successful applicants by email by 26 October 2020.

Payment process and reporting:

  • Successful applicant identifies UK-based cultural institution which will provide the relevant online course. This can be a university, festival, museum, cultural centre or any other institution registered in the UK as a legal body 
  • Applicant is expected to liaise the details of the professional development directly with the institution(s) and confirm the acceptance on the course(s), after which the payment will be arranged. Institution should accept credit card payments made by legal bodies
  • Bursaries will be paid by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy directly to UK arts institution which will provide professional development to the successful applicant
  • Applicant and Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow sign a non-monetary grant agreement according to which applicant is responsible for the tax payment (for individuals – 13% of the grant amount, for organisation – depending on the tax payment system)
  • The professional development should take place by 28 February 2021
  • After completion of the professional development, applicants provide the descriptive report in English and complete the evaluation questionnaire 
  • If applicant does not complete the professional development activity in time, the applicant will pay Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow the cost of the online course.
